New Zealand Weekend Writing Retreat
Labour Weekend 2026
23 – 26 October
Whangapoua, Coromandel Peninsula
A Long Weekend for You and Your Writing
Step away from the day to day and give yourself a long weekend to focus on your manuscript.
Escape to Whangapoua on the Coromandel Peninsula this Labour Weekend and
focus on your writing alongside a small group of writers.
There’s structure and support when you need it, plenty of uninterrupted writing time,
and space to switch off and enjoy the weekend too.
What’s Included
Over the weekend, you’ll have:
Dedicated writing time to focus on your manuscript
Workshops and discussions designed to support your writing
One-to-one time with me throughout the retreat
Time to connect and talk books and writing with other writers
Accommodation/meals for the weekend
Plenty of coffee, tea, and snacks to keep the words coming
The group is deliberately kept small, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity for individual support throughout the weekend.
The Weekend
Friday, 23 October – Monday, 26 October 2026
Whangapoua, Coromandel Peninsula
You’ll arrive on Friday afternoon/evening, giving you time to settle in before we start the weekend together.
Saturday and Sunday will give you plenty of dedicated writing time, alongside workshops, discussions, and individual support. There’ll also be downtime built in—you’re on retreat, after all.
We’ll wrap up on Monday morning, giving you one final opportunity to write and plan how you’ll keep the momentum going once you’re home.
The Accommodation
Set on a ridge minutes from Whangapoua, the retreat is held in a gorgeous single-level, four-bedroom home with beautiful views across to Matarangi. With plenty of space to write, relax, and come together as a group, it’s the perfect place to step away from everyday life and focus on your writing.
With only three guest places available, this is intentionally a small retreat rather than a large writing event.
Who Is It For?
This retreat is for writers who want to put everything else aside for a few days and give their manuscript their full attention.
Whether you’re working through a first draft, deep into revisions, or trying to get moving again after feeling stuck, you’ll have the time and support to focus on what your manuscript needs.
You don’t need to arrive with a certain word count or be at a particular stage of the writing process. You just need a project you want to work on.
